Everything about Steelhead fishing in Ohio. I use flyrods, spinning gear, centerpin, you name it. As long as I catch fish I'm happy.

Global Warming?!
What the hell is going on?! We got rain, snow, and ice all in the same week. It has been like this for all month. Every time I get a chance to get out it is either flooded or iced up with chunks of slush. There is no in between. Is this the global warming effect? It seems to me that for the last twenty years, there has not been any consistency with the weather. The fall begins in October, winter in January, and spring April. Hell, even the salmon runs in Mich have been late the past decade! I'm a little frustrated and personally rather be locked up in ice for a couple of months straight than out chasing rainbows and unpredictable conditions. Or maybe I need my second shift job back so I can fish every morning instead. My cents.

November+Cold+Rain= STEELHEAD
Got back from New York and had a good time. The salmon were fun, but the Brownies were everywhere. I would love to fish it later in November but not this year. Oh well. My salmon fix is over, eggs are cured, and its Ohiio Tiime!!. The east side of the state seems to have more fish(thanx Pennsylvania ) and the rains are more consistent. That means..FISH ON!
The morning bite was crap, but the afternoon bite was on FIRE!!!!. Fish woke out of their slumber and decided to bite. Good time at Conneaut today. Those King eggs are the sh#t this time of year and fish were swallowing them.

Early Season
Well, time to catch some steelies. Fall is officially a week away and the rivers are seeing a trickle of fish. I'm heading up to NY for salmon. Hope to bring some bait back and some for the smoker. When I get back, steelhead will be on my mind 2/7/365. Oh, check out my new site: http://ohiosteelhead.info

Skamania?????
Yes, the season is over for the most part. Except, in Indiana and Michigan that is. Yes, we have summer run steelies hear in the Great Lakes. They average 8-10pounds and fight like hell. When the word gets out that the run is in, I'll do my damest to escape myself. The biggest fish I've seen was pushing 20 and I've hooked a few 15+ fish. Short sleeve shirts, hot fish, and picnics, Can't beat that!

Snow, snow, Everywhere
Come on old man winter. Enough is enough. As soon as I gas up the truck, we get slammed with 20 inches of snow. Cabin fever has set in and I can't take much more. Thank goodness the rains are on their way.

Winter Prep
It is 20 degrees and ice everywhere. I still stay active to prepare myself for the spring chaos. Right now is the time to prepare, I will tie flies, check the gear, and most important in this day and age. Start saving cash for gas, Here in the Ohio Steelhead Alley , you can drive all over route 90 in search of the best fishable conditions. The rivers are 90 percent iced and the best fishing can be found at the powerplants. If only the wind from the north would die down and quit pushing the icepack inshore. Lets not even talk about the windshield factor. As I write this, I will make a to do list and fly inventory levels. Back to work.
